Privacy policy for Liviu Automation

DRAFT: needs review by a lawyer before use.

On this page

This page says what "Liviu Automation" (the "Software") does with data. It is written to be read.

The short version

  • Everything stays on your Mac by default: your models, files, logs and settings.
  • The Software sends licence requests when you use a key, optional diagnostic summaries when enabled, and support messages with diagnostic logs when you explicitly choose Send to Liviu.
  • We do not upload your Revit models. Support logs are filtered to remove personal paths, e-mail addresses, licence keys and sign-in tokens, but model file names may remain. You can review the log before sending. The licensing application counts requests using a keyed hash of your IP address and deletes those counters after about two days. Bluehost may separately retain web-server access logs containing IP addresses.
  • Stripe sells the subscription, as the seller of record, and handles your payment details. We never see them. Our licence server keeps your e-mail address (encrypted) and your licence key, so that we can send you the key and run your licence (section 4).
  • Get Help sends your message, the reply address you enter, device details and a diagnostic text attachment only after you click Send to Liviu. Copy Details remains available for contacting support yourself.

Who is responsible

Liviu Trifoi, trading as "Liviu Automation" ("we" and "us"), decides how the data described here is used. To contact us, see the end of this page.

1. What stays on your Mac

By default, everything. The Software runs on your Mac, and it keeps these things there:

  • your Revit models and other files, which the Software never reads for us and never uploads,
  • the Windows environment that holds Revit, the Wine engine, downloads and settings,
  • logs, in ~/Library/Application Support/Revit Wine Lab/logs/, whose filtered excerpts are sent only when you explicitly submit a Get Help request,
  • your licence key and the result of the last licence check, if you use a key,
  • the start date of your free trial, which is counted on your Mac (kept in two private files, so that a damaged file cannot restart it). The trial sends nothing to anyone,
  • one short line about the last error (an installation, a launch or a test that failed), kept in the settings of the Windows environment and removed when one works. It never holds a licence key or a folder path,
  • a record of your agreement to the Terms of Use: its version, the exact hash of the text you were shown, when you accepted it, which acknowledgments were ticked, the app version, and the same random installation ID described below (never a name, a path, or the licence key itself; a stored key is kept there only as its one-way hash). Every acceptance is kept, never overwritten, so a later change to the Terms of Use does not erase the record of an earlier one.

The Autodesk sign-in link that comes back to Revit is passed on without being logged. Uninstalling removes all of this. The README explains how.

2. What the Software sends, and when

The optional Test This Mac compatibility-report service is disabled in this release. Automatic failure reports are a separate, opt-in feature described below and in section 10.

WhenWhat is sentTo whomWhy
You enter or open a licence key (Full mode, after the free trial)The licence key, and a short label for your Mac, such as "Mac-1a2b3c4d", made from a random installation ID that the Software creates on your Mac. Secure activation also sends a public signing key, timestamp and signature; the private key remains protected by this Mac's Secure Enclave and is never sent. It is not your name, your Mac's name or its serial number. If you have already accepted the current Terms of Use, its version, the hash of the text, and when you accepted it are sent too, so the server can keep that with the activation; nothing is sent if you have not yet accepted, and older versions of the app never send this. Our licence server (a small program that we run on Bluehost, at the address set in the Software)To check that the key is valid, to count the Macs it is active on, and to keep a record of which Terms of Use you had accepted at the time
From time to time while Full mode is on (about every three days when you are online)The licence key, activation ID, public signing key, timestamp and signed device proofThe same serverTo check that the subscription is still active
You free a place (sign the key out of this Mac) or you cancel from inside the SoftwareThe key and activation ID; deactivation also sends the public signing key, timestamp and signed device proof. Cancellation sends your confirmationThe same serverTo free the place, or to cancel the subscription and, inside the first 7 days after a charge, refund it
Only if you enable automatic failure reports and a supported operation failsThe diagnostic summary fields listed in section 10, excluding raw logs and model contentsOur Bluehost licensing server, which forwards the summary to our support inboxTo investigate installation and launch failures
Only if you switch on anonymous compatibility reportsOnly the fields listed in the report fields pageOur report service, at the address set in the SoftwareTo learn which Macs and versions work

There is no usage analytics or account registration in the app. Both report features are off unless you enable them, and you can switch them off at any time. When automatic failure reports are enabled, a failed performance test may send the same limited diagnostic summary as an installation or launch failure. Raw logs and model contents are not sent automatically.

As with any program that contacts a web service, our licence server, and Bluehost, which hosts it, see your Mac's IP address when the Software checks your key. The licensing application uses hashed request counters (section 4). Bluehost may separately retain infrastructure and access logs, including IP addresses; their retention is governed by Bluehost’s policies and hosting settings.

Get Help. When you choose Get Help (in the menu, or on an error alert), the Software prepares a support request. You enter an e-mail address for replies and can add a description. Nothing is sent until you click Send to Liviu. The request travels over HTTPS through licence.liviutrifoi.com on Bluehost to our support inbox, with a diagnostic text file attached. You can use Review Log before sending or Copy Details to contact us yourself. Your own description is sent as you enter it. The details added to the message are:

  • the version of the Software, the Revit version it is set up for, your Mac's chip, its memory and its macOS version,
  • whether Rosetta 2 is working, and where you stand with the trial or subscription in words ("free trial, day 3 of 14", "subscribed", "Viewer mode only"). It does not ask the licence server anything to work this out,
  • how the last launch of Revit ended, and the last error, each as one short line,
  • the name of the support file (see below).

Personal paths, your user name, e-mail addresses, licence keys and sign-in tokens are filtered from these diagnostic details. The reply address and description you enter are intentionally included so we can help and respond. The support file contains bounded excerpts of the app's recent logs, Windows startup traces, selected Autodesk installation errors and system-precheck results, and, when present, a Revit journal tail; model file names may remain. Its system summary also includes your system time-zone identifier, current UTC offset and abbreviation to help diagnose Windows compatibility errors.

Installer evidence comes from Setup, Install and DDA logs in the app's managed Windows environment. It also includes only recognized fixed version/status messages and error categories from the exact temporary AdskLicensingUpdateSupport.log setup-checker file. Dynamic server details, account and licence values, and unrelated helper-log content are excluded. This does not collect Autodesk identity or licensing-agent/service logs, model contents, crash dumps or the Windows registry. You can review the attachment before choosing Send to Liviu. These excerpts and time-zone details are not part of automatic failure reports.

Get Help also saves a support ZIP on your Desktop. Sending reads only that prepared ZIP, converts its allowed diagnostic entries to a text attachment of at most 500 KB, and sends it with your request. The server does not publish the log or store it as a downloadable file. Messages and attachments remain in the support inbox until deleted. The server receives your IP address; hashed rate counters and Bluehost access logs work as described above. No mail password is stored in the app.

If sending fails or cannot be confirmed, the local support file remains available for retry or manual sharing. The app reports acceptance only after the server's mail transport accepts the message; inbox delivery can still be delayed or filtered by the mail provider. Choosing Close removes the app's prepared Desktop ZIP. It does not withdraw a message already submitted. In older app versions, Get Help instead opens a mail draft and the ZIP must be attached manually.

Downloads during setup. The Software downloads fixed, checksum-checked components from GitHub (the Wine engine build and DXMT), from Microsoft (runtimes and the WebView2 browser runtime) and from Autodesk (its sign-in component). Those servers see your IP address, as with any download. This is a download, not a report.

Other software. Revit, Autodesk's sign-in and licensing services, and Microsoft's WebView2 have their own data collection, settings and privacy policies. We do not control them. Look for their settings inside Revit and in your Autodesk account.

3. What we never collect

  • your name, e-mail address or user name through the Software (the e-mail address you give at checkout reaches us from Stripe, see section 4),
  • your files, folder paths or file names, or the names of your projects, clients or Revit models,
  • your Autodesk account details, sign-in data, licence values, or identity and licensing-agent/service logs; the limited setup-checker status described above contains none of those values,
  • anything from your screen, keyboard or microphone,
  • raw IP addresses in the licensing application database. It uses a keyed hash to count requests and stop abuse, and deletes those counters after about two days. This does not cover Bluehost infrastructure or web-server access logs. (Stripe, Bluehost and the download servers see IP addresses, as any web service does. See sections 2 and 4.)

4. Stripe's role, and what our licence server stores

Stripe. The subscription is sold through Stripe's hosted checkout page, with Stripe Managed Payments. Stripe is the seller of record: it takes your payment, handles tax and sends your receipt. To do that it collects what it needs, such as your name, e-mail address, country or postal code, payment details (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Link) and IP address. Stripe's own privacy policy governs that data, and you will find it linked at checkout and in your receipt. We never see your payment details.

What Stripe tells our licence server. Your e-mail address, Stripe's ids for your subscription and customer record, the state of the subscription (active, cancelled, past due, refunded, disputed), the end of the period you paid for, and the amount, currency, date and reference of each charge and refund.

What our licence server stores. It is a small program that we run at Bluehost, with a database there. It holds:

  • your licence key, encrypted, with a one-way hash to find it and its last four characters to show "key ending in ...",
  • your e-mail address, encrypted, with a keyed hash to look it up (so that we can send you your key again, and cancel by e-mail),
  • the Stripe ids and the subscription and charge facts listed above, and when a cancellation or refund was asked for and done,
  • for each Mac that uses the key: a SHA-256 fingerprint of its public signing key, a random activation ID, and when it was first and last seen,
  • short technical records: which payment events were already handled, and a log of what an automatic cancellation or refund did (ids and times only, no e-mail address),
  • counters that slow down abuse, named by a keyed hash of the IP address, of an e-mail address or of a key, never by the address or key itself.

It does not hold your name, your postal address, your card or any payment details, your files, or anything about your Revit work. The licensing application is designed not to write raw licence keys or email addresses to its application logs. Separate hosting access logs may contain IP addresses and request paths.

Who else handles it. Bluehost hosts the server and its database. Bluehost SMTP sends the e-mail that carries your licence key to your address, so it handles that message and your address. Each acts on our behalf under its own terms and privacy policy.

We use all of this to send you your key, to run your licence, to cancel and refund, to answer your support requests and to keep the records the law requires. We do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising.

5. How long we keep data

  • On your Mac: until you delete it. Uninstalling removes it.
  • Licence records on our licence server (key, e-mail address, subscription and charge facts, Macs): while your subscription runs, and afterwards for as long as the law requires us to keep sales and tax records and to deal with refunds and disputes. We remove your e-mail address from the record earlier if you ask, unless the law requires us to keep it.
  • Request counters: about two days. Records of payment events already handled: up to 60 days. Checkouts that were started but never paid: about 35 days.
  • Stripe, Bluehost: under their own policies. Stripe keeps the payment and tax records that the law requires of a seller.
  • Support messages: for as long as needed to help you, and for up to 24 months after the last message.
  • Anonymous compatibility reports: for up to 24 months. They hold nothing that identifies you, so we cannot find one report among the others and cannot delete it on request.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask us to show you the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to limit or object to how we use it, and to take a copy of it. You may withdraw your consent to reports at any time. You may also complain to your data protection authority.

We hold personal data about you only if you have written to us, or if you subscribed and Stripe has told our licence server about your purchase (section 4). To use your rights about data Stripe holds, contact Stripe. To use them with us, write to the address below. We will answer within one month.

Where the law of your country asks for a reason to use data (for example in the EU and the UK): we use licence checks because they are needed to provide what you bought, we use reports because you agree to them, and we keep sales records because the law requires it. Data may be processed outside your country by Stripe, Bluehost and our report service, under their own safeguards.

7. Children

The Software is meant for people who work with Revit. It is not aimed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

8. Changes

If we change how data is used, we will update this page and say so in the release notes.

9. Contact

liviutrifoidesigns@gmail.com (website: https://liviutrifoi.com)

Secure activation stores an opaque Secure Enclave key representation in the managed app folder. Copying this representation to another Mac does not transfer the private key. Losing it requires an activation reset through support. No Mac serial number or hardware UUID is sent.

10. Optional automatic failure reports

Automatic failure reporting is off until you choose Share Reports. Change this choice in the Liviu Automation menu under Automatic Failure Reports. Reports travel over HTTPS through licence.liviutrifoi.com to the support inbox. They include a random report identifier, app and macOS versions, architecture, memory, free disk space, Revit profile, recent setup stage names, exception type, numeric error code and code locations. They exclude raw logs, exception text, model contents, licence keys and email addresses. The server receives your IP address; application rate-limit records use a keyed hash. Hosting access logs may record IP addresses under the hosting provider’s policy. Reports remain in the support inbox until deleted. Reporting is best effort and does not cover power loss, force-quit, or all native crashes. If sending fails, use Collect Support Info to share logs manually.

Unofficial software. Liviu Automation is made by Liviu Trifoi, an individual. It is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Autodesk. Autodesk and Revit are trademarks of Autodesk, Inc. You need your own valid Autodesk licence, and you use the software at your own risk.
